Darly Moore Bernardo, M.D.
Dr. Darly is married to Michael J. Bernardo, M.D.; they have four children. She was born in France while her parents were serving in the U.S. Military, and moved to South Carolina at age seven. She grew up in Pickens, S.C., and graduated valedictorian at Pickens High School in 1981. The family doctor who still cares for her parents has been a role model for Dr. Bernardo since childhood.
From 1981-85 she attended Furman University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology. She was a Furman Scholar, a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society, and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She won the Robert Emmet Allen Premedical Prize as an outstanding student preparing for a medical career.
In 1989, she received the Degree of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She also received the MUSC Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Art of Medical Interview and Physical Examination, and the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation given by the American Medical Women's Association.
From 1989-92, Dr. Bernardo was in the Family Medicine Residency at the University of Virginia. She is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Bernardo is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the S.C. Academy of Family Physicians, and the Newberry County Medical Society. She has lived in Newberry with her husband and children since 1992.
